PAHRUMP AMATEUR RADIO REPEATER ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES FOR 12 JULY 2024
Please note: There was no meeting in July as we could not gain access to the United Methodist Church. This generated an effort to find other accommodations. Steve Bird, KH7KHE offered the Nye County Operations Conference room which was immediately accepted.
Future meetings will be held there:
Nye County Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
1510 Siri Ln, Pahrump, NV
The meeting wasn’t really “brought to order”, but rather proceed ad-hoc fashion with a presentation given by a new resident of the valley and prospective Ham Radio Operator.
A presentation given by Tim Doyle about creating a new web site and marketing the club. Many topics were discussed – too many to summarize here- but basically Tim described how he would create a new web site for the Club.
New website would be written in WordPress. Other features would include:
- Move web site to Hostgator.com
- Presentation on how to better attract new people to the hobby
- Activating SSL Certificates
- 24//7 site monitoring
- $400 for one year. Once a month free update.
- $70 per for renewal
A motion was made and accepted to agree to the terms stated in the handout / contract presented, which are attached to these meeting minutes.
A credit / debit from a member was used to pay for the transaction and a check was written to repay the member in full.
The meeting continued starting with introductions around the room.
The President confirmed that we did have a quorum for the meeting. There were a total of 25 people in attendance, 22 hams and 3 visitors in attendance.
Our Vice-President led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Our Vice-President reminded everyone to sign in, pay dues, purchase raffle tickets and all that good stuff.
Secretaries Report: Minutes of the May 2024 meeting were presented and approved.
Treasurer Report: Our Treasurer, Glen Frost, WL7WU reported that we had a balance of $2321.94. A deduction has been made to repay the member whose debit card was used to pay for web services in the amount of $400.00.
During this it was discovered that only Jerry Dries, N7HYV and Frank Heye, N6HOX have access to the checking account and neither one was present. This overall was handled by Debbie Anderson, KA6GRL. A check was written and later signed by Jerry Dries, N7HYV
Sunshine Fund: This has not been needed recently. There were a couple of member hospitalizations, but Debbie was not notified of the event, so no card was sent.
Announcements:
I reported the death of a member and previous Vice-President Gary Bechel, KI7VLH. He will be missed. SK
The ARRL suffered a massive web and other computer outage when they fell victim to a ransomware attack. They were advised by the FBI to not disclose anything, who unfortunately left all of us members out in the dark. Logbook of the World was restored after several weeks. As I type this everything seems to be back on line at ARRL Headquarters.
The United States government has banned Kasperski Antivirus citing it might be a possible intelligence information source for Russia.
The museum status has not changed so there is nothing to report.
There has been no change in repeater status, but Jerry, N7HYV was not present.
Old Business:

New Business:
